Scam warning: hoax emails from HMRC

28 July 2025

We’ve been made aware of some very realistic looking hoax emails purporting to be from HMRC.

The emails we’ve seen this week come from Tax Self Assessment noreply@hhlepdesk and ask recipients to sign in or pay their outstanding bill online.

These emails are fake, and do not come from HMRC.

HMRC will never ask for your bank details, personal information or send notifications by email or text for:

  • Tax rebates
  • Refunds
  • Personal or payment information

If you receive an email or text purporting to be from HMRC, don’t respond, don’t click on any website links and don’t disclose any personal or payment information.  Instead, contact HMRC directly to verify the information.  You can Forward suspicious emails to HMRC’s phishing team: phishing@hmrc.gov.uk.
