Paper filing options for accounts to be withdrawn from April 2027

Paper filing options for accounts to be withdrawn from April 2027

27 June 2025 | posted in Accounting services Accounts preparation

From 1 April 2027, Limited Companies and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) will need to file their accounts with Companies House using digital software.

Web and paper filing options for accounts will no longer be available from this date – but will remain open for other statutory filings such as confirmation statements and director updates (these are not affected by the change).

Whether you file accounts yourself or through an accountant or agent, you’ll need to use software from April 2027 onwards.

The changes are being introduced under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 to improve the accuracy of data on the Companies House register.

If you or your agent/accountant are already digitally filing your accounts, then you don’t need to take any action – you’re already compliant with the changes.

If you currently file your accounts by web or post (whether you file accounts yourself or through an accountant), you’ll need to use software from April 2027 onwards.

To comply with these changes, all companies will need to find a suitable software product before web-based and paper filing options are no longer available.

Most companies can make the change now as commercial software is already available.  There are lots of software providers who offer a range of accounting packages to prepare and file accounts – you can find a list of compatible software here.

If you’re not already using software to file your company’s information you can find out how to do so here.
